Dr. Monacell was born in Washington, D.C. He grew up
in Arlington, VA and graduated from Virginia Tech with a
degree in Biology and from the Medical College of Virginia
with a degree in Dentistry, and then completed a two year
Orthodontic Residency. He was the recipient of a variety of
academic awards from MCV School of Dentistry including
the A. D. Williams Award as first in his class. Dr. Monacell
served in the United States Air Force before establishing
his orthodontic practice in the Richmond area in 1978.
A serious commitment to continuing education has led Dr.
Monacell to participate in many courses each year with a
special emphasis in growth and development, functional
jaw orthopedics, facial esthetics, and adult orthodontic
treatment. He has also completed the prestigious Roth
Course of Advanced Orthodontics in California. Dr. Monacell is a recognized innovator
in orthodontics. There are appliance attachments and an archwire that bear
his name.”Dr. Monacell has taught at the Dental School and also lectured to numerous
professional organizations.
He is a member of various professional and civic organizations and has served
as president
of the MCV Orthodontic Education and Research
Foundation, president of his Rotary Club, and founding
board member and Chairman of the Chickahominy
YMCA. He also serves as an elder at Sandston
Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Monacell and his wife, Jane, have two grown daughters, Amy and Emily. His hobbies
include boating, fishing, and photography.
Dr. Monacell is a member of the American Association of
Orthodontists, the World Federation of Orthodontists, as well as
numerous local, state, and national orthodontic organizations.
