Many orthodontic braces patients find that the biggest challenge they face involves keeping their teeth clean. Braces inhibit regular methods of flossing, as well as create ledges and crevices where plaque may collect. Thus, patients must be particularly diligent about brushing thoroughly after every meal.
Another alternative to braces is Invisalign. With Invisalign, it is much easier to keep your teeth and gums clean because you remove them to eat and clean your teeth. They are much more comfortable than braces and they afford the patient much more freedom to eat the foods they enjoy.
As with any modality of treatment, there are advantages and disadvantages. Braces need to be cleaned thoroughly and Invisalign needs to be worn a minimum of 22 hours a day. Braces are affixed to the teeth with special adhesive and Invisalign is removable. Invisalign requires less visits to the office, while braces need to be checked more frequently.
